Ordinance 2nd Reading - Building Safety:
Consider Ordinance No. 2020-O0020, amending Article 28.12 of the City of Lubbock Code of Ordinances, with regard to the adoption of the 2014 National Electrical Code governing the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and systems within buildings and premises.
On January 28, 2020, the City Council approved the first reading of the ordinance.
The National Electrical Code is the City's adopted "model" electrical code, and governs the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and systems within buildings and premises throughout the jurisdiction. The Code is promulgated by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), updated periodically through a consensus process involving input and voting by industry and member jurisdictions nationwide, and further amended by the City to suit unique local conditions. The proposed ordinance updates the document from the 2011 Edition to the 2014 Edition, and maintains several local amendments approved by staff and the Model Codes and Construction Advisory Board. Staff finds no conflict between said local amendments and the provisions of House Bill 2439.
