Resolution - Traffic Operations:
Consider a resolution in support of a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) future Detailed Application for the 2019 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Call for Projects.
The City of Lubbock Traffic Operations Department submitted a Preliminary Application to the "2019 Transportation and Safe Routes to School Call (SRTS) for Projects." The City's preliminary application was selected and the department will now submit a Detailed Application. The Detailed Application requires demonstration of local support by resolution of the governing body. The deadline to submit the Detailed Application with the City's resolution is August 15, 2019.
If selected, the SRTS project will construct curb ramps and sidewalks throughout the Arnett Benson, Jackson-Mahon, and Guadalupe neighborhoods, completing accessible pedestrian connections between schools, housing, parks, and after-school programs. Rapid Reflective Flashing Beacons (RRFB) are proposed at five uncontrolled collector crosswalks. Approximately one (1) mile of Avenue U would be converted from four (4) vehicular lanes of travel to three (3) vehicular lanes and two (2) bike lanes.
Schools within a 2-mile radius of the proposed improvements include: Wolffarth Elementary, McWhorter Elementary, Cavazos Middle School, Jackson Elementary, and Guadalupe Elementary.
The plans and specifications will be developed in-house by Professional Engineers within the Traffic Operations Department.
The SRTS funds do not require a local match; however the local government would be responsible for non-reimbursable costs and overruns, if any.
