|On August 27, 2019, the City Council approved the first reading of the ordinance with the following amendments:
1. The prohibition on social gatherings was removed.
2. The effective date of the ordinance was changed from September 1, 2019 to October 1, 2019.
Earlier this year, the City Council directed staff to draft an amendment to Chapter 40 of the Zoning Code of Ordinances which would require the registration of Short Term Rentals and the collection of Hotel Occupancy Taxes (HOT). The proposed ordinance, attached hereto, provides the following:
•Definitions for a short term rental, owner, operator, etc.
•Requires a permit to operate a short term rental
•Defines when a permit may be denied
•Requires the payment of Hotel Occupancy Tax
•Lists prohibited uses.
For detailed information on this request, please refer to the proposed ordinance attached hereto. The Planning and Zoning Commission heard this proposal on August 6, 2019, and recommended approval of the amendment by a unanimous vote.
