Regular City Council Meeting
Resolution - Engineering:
Consider a resolution authorizing the City Council to approve the installation of medians in a new subdivision, Sedona Addition, Lots 1-122 and Tracts A-R, in accordance with the City of Lubbock Code of Ordinances 38.05.001(17).
Mr. Trey Strong and Mr. Robert Wood requested approval of medians in the new subdivision, Sedona Addition. This subdivision will be located between Memphis Avenue and Quaker Avenue on the east and west; and between 146th Street and 151st Street on the north and south. The medians will be permanently maintained by the Home Owners Association that will be established with the subdivision. Also, in accordance with the ordinance, the streets adjacent to the medians are to be constructed in concrete, and the paving plans have already been approved by the Engineering Department.
City of Lubbock ordinances require City Council approval for medians to be placed in public streets. The following is from the Code of Ordinances Section 38.05.001(17):
"Islands or medians shall be allowed in public streets only when approved by the City Council. Prior to City Council consideration, the subdivider and/or their engineer shall be required to submit special design and construction details of the pavement structure to the city engineer for any proposed landscaped islands or medians with irrigation systems. As a standard, concrete pavement will be the minimum pavement structure considered for streets adjacent to irrigated islands or medians. Islands and medians shall be platted as separate lots or tracts and shall remain under private ownership and maintenance unless otherwise approved by the City Council."
